OEE OE OE OEEEE TICOS TICOS!!

What's up guys?

It's big party over here! The entire day revolved around futbol.

I woke up at 5:00 to read all the posts that other interns who are in Asia or Africa posted overnight. It's interesting to talk to people when they live in different timezones. Talking to Abby and Ali is interesting because my friday morning is their friday night/early saturday morning. I didn't go to the cafeteria this morning because I have 2 months worth of Nutrigrain bars that need to be eaten.

I left for the farm around 6 on my bike and attempted to ride the entire time, but potholes and giant hills killed that hope quicker than Costa Rica killed Italy (whoops). I got there early again, which is good, but I really would've liked to sleep for a little longer. Don Luis and Don Jorge met me on top of the hill and we began to work. There wasn't a lot to do today. I helped hose down the pig pens and filled up the baths. After that I went to the outdoor area with Don Luis to help him fix one of the big red pig pens. They look like big isosceles triangles made out of brown planks of wood and the top sides are covered with red tin. Don Luis needed to nail some 2x4 planks in the door of one of the pens so I held the planks and picked up any nails that fell into the mud. There was a bunch of thick mud in front of the pens. My boots kept getting stuck which was very funny for Don Luis. We were putting these 2x4 planks in front of the pen so the piglets that lived there didn't try to leave the pen and get stuck in the mud.  Once we were finished we went back to the main pork building and put feed bags into  piles. Don Luis, Don Jorge, and another man stood around for another minute or so talking about the game between Greece and Japan (which was painful to watch). Turns out we were done for the day. I got to leave the farm around 9 which gave me plenty of time to finally find the bank.

Now, finding the bank was like trying to find Atlantis. Lena, Paula, and Mariana didn't think there was a bank on campus but all the EARTH students and staff knew of it. Trying to get directions was awful. I had to stop and ask 5 people or so. I knew it was really far up campus by the entrance, but that didn't really help me. I left the farm and headed towards the pool area which is about half a mile north of where I live and looked around there. I then rode up towards the banana plantation, realized that it was a dead end, rode around the plantation again, rode back to the pool, asked for directions again, and finally found out where I needed to go. I had to ride through a big green lawn and cross a street to another white building with a red roof. Almost all of the buildings here are white with red tin roofs, so there wasn't any real indicator that this was the building until I saw the sign that said "San Jose BAC". It took a few minutes but I finally exchanged some dollars to colones! The money here is so pretty and interesting!

After that I took a shower and watched the game in the rec room. Everyone was screaming and cheering! We even had a victory lunch with nice buffet tables with red, white, and blue tablecloths. Every few minutes or so, somebody will yell,"Oee oe oe oeee ticos ticos!" and everyone will chime in. Lunch was great and there was a little coconut pudding cake thing that was AMAZING!

For the next few hours I spent some time working on my WFP paper and uploading some pictures and video. I might make another vlog but I'm not too sure. I might make one every week, but don't hold me to that.

Around 6:30 I really had fun. I helped Profe Kent, the english professor from Texas, with an english review session for a midterm. I had to help students with phrases such as "I do, you do, she does, he does, we do, and they do." As a native speaker we just say these phrases naturally and know that "I does" sounds wrong. It's really hard to explain why "I does" is wrong when I've grown up knowing that it's "I do". I couldn't just say "It's I do just because" so I had to explain that does is only for he and she. It's nice because explaining these phrases to them helps me with my spanish. I can explain a sentence in english and translate it to spanish, thus helping both of us practice. i hope I really helped them! I'm going to do it again Sunday.

Well, that was my first Friday at EARTH! It was awesome and definitely exciting. Tomorrow's going to be even better.

Goodnight guys!
-Allie
